Still in Surat Thani

Ok I couldnt find much to do,I found another internet cafe and I uploaded a hand full of photos to my gallery. Not much,I found out that film going to CHECKED luggage gets ruined not carry-on so my pictures on my 35mm on Bangkok are gone. I bought a few rolls before Khao Sok and but only took maybe 4 pictures there with my 35mm. I will regret that I know.

Surat Thani

Ok I'm currently in Surat Thani with 7 hours to kill. I tried to upload some pictures because the internet cafe Im at has a decent speed but it would allow it with my camera and the computers dont have a memory card port. Last night at dusk I noticed a bat circling my bungalow so I decided to stick around on the porch to try and protect my gecko friends. After sitting around for awhile I noticed these black thing darting really low to the ground through the trees across from the bungalow. I thought they were the shadows of bats but no they were the bats. I watched easily 100 bats fly underneath my bungalow. After that I went up the restaurant and had some sweet & sour fish with sticky rice which may have been the best meal of the trip thus far. I left Khao Sok Park this morning on a mini-bus to Surat Thani. I think it seated maybe 12 people but at one point i think there was 15 people and 2 children. The first 30 minutes of the trip we where still in the hilly area and theres nothing but little Toyota trucks and the thought crossed my mind how perfect it would be to build a house here and buy a little 4X4 and catch fish everyday. You'll have to see the pictures i guess to really understand what I mean. I got dropped off at a travel place where I booked a bus ticket to Cha Am. I think I have the rest of my trip planned it should go something like this: a few days in Cha Am,then to Ayutthaya for a few days,Sukhothai for a day or 2, then Chiang Mai for a few days, back to Bangkok, then Phnom Penh for 2 or 3 days, Siem Reap/Angkor Wat a few days, back to Bangkok for as little as possible then home. I estimate Ill be home within the first few days of February. Well Im coming to go get something to eat and maybe find a movie theater or something. Glad to hear the snow is leaving!

Khao Sok Park 2

Today I am resting from a 15-ish km hike that I went on yesterday. The first 3km of the hike your on a road big enough for one car to drive down then you come to a pavillion which has a small waterfall and some rapids after that its a trail that only one person can fit down. Not many straight parts to it once you got to part going downward there was a equal part going right back up. I snapped a few pictures of the bamboo bridges and ladders. And a few pictures of some rapids and giant spider. Half way through the trek I stopped at some more rapids where picked up my backpack wrong, one of the straps came undone and I dropped it into some still water. It floats! Everything inside just got a little damp and my camera equipment is still in working order. I made the mistake of only taking one bottle of water and half way through got worried about de-hydrating but the walk back to the enterance felt much shorter then the walk to the waterfalls. My room is booked up until tonight so today ill be deciding where Im going to heading next (more then likely north). At night the roof of the porch of my bungalow is covered with tan geckos who chirp and keep all the flys and mosquitos off of you. Ive also seen what I think are mongoose, some kind of gliding lizard, these small herring like birds and one record breaking spider.
Random tid-bits that I havent mentioned yet:

I really have only had been craving one western food since getting here thats grilled cheese.

At the bus stop in Bangkok a moped passed by blaring the intro to some CCR song,I think its called Green River? "theres a place up ahead and Im going" that song. Ive had it stuck in my head since then.

I had to throw away my deoderant at the O'Hare because it was over 3 oz. I havent bought any since being here.

Today is the first time I'm having my laundry done. Ive been gone 10 days.

Khao Sok Park

Alright since my last entry I said goodbye to the ladies and Green Guesthouse and they gave me some chicken on the way out. My bus to Khao Sok was supposed to leave at 5:30pm but we didn't leave Bangkok until 8. After about only 20 minutes of driving we had to stop because of problems with the brakes. The bus graveyard that we stopped at was pretty sketchy and some people on the bus were freaking out but a few mechanics came out and we took off after a half hour of work. We did end up stopping another 2 times but I'm not sure why nobody got out of the bus during those stops. The bus stopped in Surit Thani to drop me and and 3 others of off who were going to Phuket. In all to Surit Thani it took 12 hours I talked to a couple of Swedish guys who were going to Ko Phi Phi which had to of been another 12 hours for them. Some how after the bus graveyard I can only remember about and hour of the trip. I remember waking up a few times with drool everywhere and looking out the window for maybe 10 minutes before falling back asleep.
Once in Surit Thani the guy guiding walked us to a travel agency and had us wait for a few minutes. He came back and decided that he was going to drive the 3 other people to the boat leaving for Phuket and I was supposed to wait for a mini bus. They took off and the lady working at the travel agency asked me if I had a room booked. I told her no and she booked me at Jungle Huts for $12 a night Im have my own bungalow with a fan, mosquito net, shower, and flushing toilet. Heres the good part after I paid her for the room she said "we'll go now". Instead of waiting for the mini-bus she decided that she was going to give me a ride to a bus heading west ON HER SCOOTER! If you can imagine me already to big for a moped alone with my big backpack and her driving. I was so out of it from the bus ride that I was just open to everything and saying yes to everything. A that was what I learned today when you are open to things you normally see as something you would not do you can have a great time. Or at least it can make for a good story.
I'm now at Khao Sok Park theres a strip leading to the park that has everything you could need just in a shanty form. Internet,mini-mart,laundry, bar, and smoothie stands. I made the mistake of taking a nap once I got here and slept for 6 more hours. I walked up to the park and tried to make it to the closest waterfall (3km) but it was getting dark. Tomorrow I'm going to try and wake up early and go see some of the waterfalls and I think somewhere i read that there are bamboo river crossing bridges like you see in movies. So goodnight all, I was very happy to get online and see everyones messages. Cody

Wat Arun

Since the last entry I made my way to Wat Arun. Its across the river and you have to take a quick ferry ride to it which cost 3.5baht which is maybe 10cents. It was pretty unreal I shot a full roll and then 15ish pictures on my digital but the internet here is so slow that its impossible to upload pictures. I had problems with my Visa cards not working and after calling my bank it looks like they wont work. But thats all sorted out now. Last night I had my first Thai meal that was actually spicy and it was rough. Today Im going to purchase my bus ticket to Khao Sok National Park www.khaosok.com (i would make a link to that but the site wont allow it until I have ten entries) which is supposed to be the worlds oldest elm rainforest. I guess that the enterance to the park is alot of places that rent bungalows and tree houses and these http://www.paddleasia.com/khao-sok-bungalows.htm (again sorry) . But Im not to sure how safe Id feel staying in one of those. Before I take off Im going to snap a few pictures of Soi Rambuttri to try and persuade people to come back here with me again someday. I was unable to go to any Muai Thay fights but I understand how they work now and what days they are on so when I come back to Bangkok to fly home I will be attending one. Hope all is well back home.
